Jel’s verdict: Let’s get you back to bed, grandpa

I can hardly recall an anime comedy that runs out of steam more quickly than this one, and I’ve seen a lot of them. I understand that everyone is lustful for the young, attractive grandparents at this point. Given that their granddaughter is the subject of half the jokes in this episode, it seems that she wants to date her grandfather right now. Though I believe this is meant to be an inside joke, they play that joke much too often for me to find it funny.

Having said that, I don’t want people to believe that this is a strange or lewd interpretation of the idea. Although everything that occurs is pure, enjoyable fun, it feels like every joke has a love undertone. The main focus of the first episode is establishing a rivalry with an additional elderly widower who formerly had a romantic relationship with Grandma seventy years before. Their granddaughter’s side story revolves on her infatuation for the grandson of the adversary. The notion that these are individuals with the maturity and life experience of someone well into their 80s who are now living in a body that is just 20 years old is not explored very much. Simply said, “Yeah, they’re hot now.” The outcome is really boring, and regrettably, I believe this is another comedy that wastes a good premise.
