“First Love is a Bad Disease That Everyone Suffers From at Least Once.”

You already know that spring is slowly getting underway, which means that plenty of fantasy is about to make its premiere. Even if a handful have previously made an appearance, Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf is undoubtedly the one that kicks things off in a formal sense since romance and elves are a certain combo for entertaining. Elves at all times.

According to the RC Preview In the fantasy romantic comedy Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf, Kobayashi Yuusuke plays the shy and emotionally inexperienced MC sorcerer Zagan, who meets the gorgeous slave elf cutie pie Nephilia (Ichinose Kana) and instantly decides he has to have her on a whim. Why? What more reason could there be? Obviously, he’s never experienced love at first sight and she’s attractive. Magical experiments and mischievous activities? Insignificant in the grand scheme of discovering how to transform an elf into a devoted homebody. Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf loves romantic comedies, as shown by a number of scenes in this episode, and he won’t wait to indulge in them to the fullest.

It should come as no surprise that Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf’s universe and characters are mostly constructed specifically for the purpose, given the thematic nature of this work. In addition to his introversion, Zagan is also a bit of a recluse; he only has one buddy, Barbatos, and he is a guy whose personal preferences lean more toward living and letting live than those of other sorcerers who are out doing more in-depth study. It basically boils down to his personality, albeit he is also expected to be promoted to archdemon after the death of one (the one that initially possessed Nephilia, to boot). You may predict the potential difficulties by listening to Zagan’s complete lack of social skills and his instant attraction to Nephilia’s nickname, Nephy. This episode offered a lot of possibilities for both sweet and humorous, but miscommunication will be the name of the game and emotion expression the bread and butter.

Nephilia herself has a portion of the potential for many of the same reasons. If Zagan lacks experience, Nephie will become fatalistic and humorously think she’s going to die every other time, only to cling to the impromptu apologies and gratitude Zagan unintentionally spills. With the overt focus on slavery that will undoubtedly divide opinions, I wouldn’t call any of the chemistry between them thus far particularly amazing when compared to other similar shows, but you can get a very good idea of how future arcs will play out, especially when combined with Nephilia’s unique status, mysterious powers kept literally under lock and key, and Zagan’s own position in society. Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf just needs to seize the chance to have a pleasant, comfortable voyage full of happy memories. There is plenty of space here.

Even if Maou no Ore ga Dorei Elf isn’t exactly a blockbuster, this first episode gives me hope for a lot more entertaining fantasy romances. This one will undoubtedly turn out to be a pleasant piece of Thursday entertainment, provided the adorable and humorous can triumph over the gritty and edgy.
