Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: My Fairlady

Gran Turismo 7 Day-to-day Races: My Fairlady

The latest new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, with three brand-new events to cover the next seven days.

This week’s races follow the most common format for the Daily Races, with a one-make road car race in Race A, and Gr.4 and Gr.3 race cars in Races B and C respectively.

Starring in Race A this week is the 2008 Nissan Fairlady Z Z34, known elsewhere as the 370Z. You can use your own vehicle from your garage — although be aware that engine-swapped cars aren’t eligible — or borrow one for the race as usual to keep the miles off your fleet.

Either way, you’ll be taking the car to the Tsukuba Circuit in Japan for a five-lap sprint race. All that’s required is the standard Sports Hard tires, although there’s a couple of further points of note.

Firstly, the race begins with a grid start and employs the false-start check system. This requires you to hold the car on the brakes or handbrake from the moment all the lights come on and until they go off; making any forward progress in this period results in a cut in engine power (roughly equal to twice the amount by which you jumped the start) and possibly a large accident as you’re hit from behind.

That will also impact your Sportsmanship Rating which remains active in this week’s race. However Driver Rating updates are turned off, so your score won’t be affected no matter how well — or badly — you finish.

Race B is a pretty simple sprint race affair as usual, employing the Gr.4 cars this week. This category is pretty similar to GT4, consisting of road car-based racers stripped back to the minimum, with a couple of outliers shoe-horned in.

It’s a four-lap race of the Dragon Trail Seaside course this week, complete with the Chicane of Death, but aside from fitting Racing Hard tires to your car and the ability to adjust brake balance during the race there’s nothing else of particular note.

Finally Race C heads to Daytona and the fearsome Road Course used for the 24-hour race each year. Appropriately enough, this race features the GT3-like Gr.3 category of cars.

This ten-lap race will have a small strategic element this week which you’ll need to account for as you plan your attempts. There’s actually two details of which you need to be aware, but they merge into one.

Firstly, you’ll need to make a pit stop during the race. This is a mandatory trip through the pit road and you’ll face a one-minute penalty after the race if you fail to take it during the ten laps — and note that it doesn’t count if you pit before reaching the start line for the first time, or right at the end of lap ten. Tires and fuel aren’t required, but you might like to take some anyway.

That’s because the fuel consumption rate is set at a 4x multiplier, meaning that your fuel tank drains four times faster than usual. Without some significant fuel-saving, many cars won’t make the end on one tank, so a splash and dash may be required. It’s up to you if you take it early or late, but beware of losing the slipstream as Daytona features two enormous full-throttle sections.

The tire wear for the required Racing Medium tires is also set at a 4x multiplier, but this shouldn’t be a factor — especially if you use the brake balance wisely to minimize wear.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday January 15.
